SIMPLE, QUICK & EASY PAN SEARED AHI TUNA RACIPE
Today I will be cooking a simple and easy pan seared ahi tuna steak.
Start by melting one tablespoon of butter in a cast iron pan under medium heat. To the butter also add two tablespoons of olive oil.
While the butter is melting, start padding the tuna fillets with a paper towel to absorb any access moisture so the fish don’t splatter hot oil out of the pan.
Next, sprinkle both sides of the tuna fillets with kosher sea salt and black pepper to taste. I like using kosher salt because it is not as salty as the regular sea salt.
Ones the butter and oil are heated, place the tuna steaks in the pan.
Make sure the setting on your burner is just below medium otherwise the fish will overcook on the outside and it will be too raw on the inside. And because this is not (or at least I don’t think it is sushi grade tuna), I want to make sure it’s not too raw.
These are very thick fillets I bought from Costco, so I will cook them for 3 minutes on each side, so the total cooking time will be 6 minutes.
If you are cooking thicker or thinner tuna fillets, just keep an eye on the middle part of the fish and make sure not to overcook it. Ideally, for a non-sushi tuna grade, you should aim for the same thickness of white, pink, white strips on the side of the tuna filet.
Ones we’ve reached the desired doneness, we like to quickly put just a bit of crunch on the outside edges of the tuna fillets.
And as far as sauces, after slicing it, we like to add some melted butter and freshly quizzed lemon juice.
