How to clean kallummakkaya kakka
Traditional method of cooking mussels (Kallummakkaya) . Mussels are first steam cooked before roasted. Try this seafood recipe at home.
Kallummakaya - 600 gm
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Redchilli powder -1tbsp
Green chilli -3
Redchilli powder -1tsp
garam masala powder -1/2 tsp
how to make
1. De-shell the mussels - Take some water in a saucepan with a steamer and bring to a boil. Add the mussels to the steamer and cover. Reduce heat to medium and let it steam for 3 to 4 minutes. Take it out of the steamer and de-shell. It's easy to open up the shell once it's steamed. Otherwise you can just put in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes too.
2. Clean the Mussels thoroughly by pinching out the greyish-black grit found inside each Mussel. Wash it in plenty of water to remove any dirt and grit. Squeeze the mussels to remove water and keep it aside.
3. Marinate the cleaned mussels with salt turmeric, Pepper powder and chilli powder and little vinegar. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
4. In a frying pan add some oil and shallow fry the mussels for 5-7 minutes and set aside.
5. In the same pan put some more coconut oil, add sliced onions and saute for sometime and then add crushed ginger garlic to it. Add some curry leaves and green chilies that give a flavor to it. Add 1/4 tsp chili powder, Garam masala, turmeric powder and 1/2 tsp fennel seed powder to the mix.
6. Add the mussels to it and give a stir. Add more oil as required to fry the masalas. Add in more curry leaves and stir fry for a minute. Remove from heat when it becomes slightly crispy and dry.
