Our friend Matthew Isbell, aka the Bama Beach Bum, is back with a quick and easy baked pompano recipe. Pompano fish can grow to about eighteen inches, so they make a great catch and meal for one to two people. There are various ways to cook a pompano, but baking the fish is an easy way to enjoy a great tasting dish.
Nothing beats cooking your catch, so why not go out to the shore and set your reels. The first step is to make your way down to the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, set your fishing rods, and see what’s biting. Once you have your catch, it’s important to know how to clean a pompano to avoid any bones in the filets. Fortunately, the Bama Beach Bum shows you how to neatly cut up your fish so you can get to cooking.
The recipe for cooking your pompano is simple and requires three ingredients:
- Your pompano filets
After you have those 3 ingredients, add your fish to a baking dish, salt to taste, and add some slices of butter on top so they melt in the oven. Once your oven is preheated to 400℉, place your dish and let the fish cook for about 15 minutes. The key is to not overcook the fish, we only want to make sure it is no longer pink. Even being slightly undercooked will be ok for a pompano.
Enjoy this dish at home with some bought pompano, or make your way to Gulf Shores and Orange beach to catch your own! As the Bama Beach Bum says, “Tight lines, and stay bummy!”
